The Gamble Series: Colorado Mountain #1

What in the God’s name was i thinking rating this amazing book with just 3β˜…?!!!!
First time I read it was in September, 2015. I had to go back and check what other books I read back then and I noticed I was in period/ or crazy state of mind, that I didn’t have any 5β˜… in that month.
So basically, rating The Gamble with 3 β˜… means that I was out of my mind and there’s nothing, but absolutely nothing wrong with this book.

In case you missed it, I declared March 2016 to be Kristen Ashley’s month. Meaning I love her books so much and having sort of a ADHD when it comes to books (I can’t finish all the books in a series, because I always want to try something else), I decided March to be the month when I finish everything I’ve started from KA: Colorado Mountain Series, Dream Man Series and Rock Chick.

Since I read The Gamble so long ago and my memory sucks + i didn’t use to write reviews, now I had to go back and re-read it. So, here I am. πŸ™‚

It’s obvious to me now that you need to be in the correct state of mind when you pick a book to read. For me it happened twice now, with super awesome novels I rated poorly and then, after going over them once again, they became top favorites. See Driven by K. Bromberg and now this.

Now, after 6 books in Colorado Mountain Series I can honestly say this one is THE BEST. I couldn’t put it down, even if I knew what was going to happen! How crazy is that? πŸ™‚

Nina Sheridan & Holden “Max” Maxwell, also called “Macho Mountain Man Max”.
Starting this book made me think about that movie, The Holiday (2006). Not the same thing story, but…..

Nina is taking a timeout from her fiancee back in England and decides to rent a cabin in Colorado Mountains. Too bad there was a miscommunication/misunderstanding/screw-up and the cabin wasn’t vacant. The owner was there.

He tells her to go to a hotel in town, she puts up a small fight (small because she was tired after 17 hours of traveling and her sinuses hurt), but takes back her groceries and leaves in the middle of a snowstorm. Coming down the mountain in her rental car, hits a patch of ice and slides into a ditch.
Lucky for her, Max came to her rescue and he brought her back to his house. Her cold being in full force, he took care of her for a couple of days and well, things start to heat up.

Her vacation was supposed to be of two weeks, but so many things happen you would think she stayed there for 2 years. I’m not going into details, because it would be an absolute pleasure for yourself to discover them.

Things I loved about this book:
1. Max. Utter perfection. Even if we find out he lost the love of his life ten years ago, his wife Anna and it my heart broke for him, but also for Nina, that’s a man impossible not to love.
He takes care of Nina when she’s sick, he calls her Duchess within the first minutes of meeting her, he protects her, he calls her on her bullshit, he’s confident to say whatever he’s thinking, he’s bossy, domineering, arrogant and impossible. He knows what he wants and he doesn’t stop until he gets it. He’s simply amazing.

2. Nina. Hilarious. Funny. Crazy. Crazy smart lawyer. The most friendly heroine ever.

3. Nina & Max’s relationship. Especially their banter.
I loved this:
Bullshit’s so thick in here, Duchess, we might need gumboots.”

Crack.” “Sorry?” He smiled, looking satisfied and finished, “in your shield.”

4. The suspense. The action. The murders, the investigations, Gnaw Bone’s people, Nina’s mother… Having no clue what would happen next.

5. Charlie ♥︎

6. Every single thing about this book.

If you love romance novels, this book can’t be missed. Simple as that.
