Rock Chick Series: Rock Chick #1

I’m so excited, I don’t even know where to start. I’m sure I’ll be blabbering and make a mess of this review, but I can’t help it. I think I’ve highlighted more than half of the book.

Ok, so this should be called Crazy Chick, not Rock Chick. OhmyGod!

I think this was my first KA book and I read it almost a year ago. Again, with my so poor memory, it’s like I never ever read it, since I only remembered bits and pieces. So I enjoyed it almost as much as the first time, maybe even more, since in the meantime I read other KA books and they mentioned Lee.

This is not a pink fairytale. This is not exactly a romance novel. If it was a movie it would be a romcom meets Bad Boys meets The Banger Sisters . This book and its characters are funny, badass, loving, family people. This book has so much action, you won’t be able to breathe. You also suffocate a little because you’ll be laughing really hard. The romance part is where you’ll meet the “two souls separated in heaven”, Indy and Lee.

Indy’s a cop daughter, whose mother died when she was five. Her mother’s best friend is married to her father’s partner and they have 3 children: Ally, who’s Indy’s best friend since birth, Lee, whom Indy’s been in love with since she was 5 years old and Hank, who is a also a cop. Basically it’s one big family with tons of other friends on the side. A loud family that can’t keep secrets and everyone is in everybody’s business.

Going back to Indy and Lee. Again, Indy has been in love with Lee since she was five and he held her hand at her mother’s funeral. Everybody knew it and everybody hoped they’ll marry someday. Also, there was a blood pact made between Ally and Indy saying that Indy’s and Lee’s first born with be named after her aunt.
Indy always thought Lee saw her as his little sister, since he told her that and also turned her down after she threw herself at him couple of times, many years ago.

Their story starts when Indy finds herself in a bit of a situation, where she’s been shot at in front of her bookstore/coffeehouse because of her coffee guy, Rosie. She calls Ally for help, Ally takes her and Rosie to Lee’s condo (while he was out of town).
Now is the time for me to tell you that Lee Nightingale is a “Hunk-A-Licous” badass, former Army/Special Ops, now sort of a PI (though nobody knew exactly what he was doing).

Lee was not just a Bad Boy, a Badass or a Badass Extraordinaire. He was a fucking crazy man.”

Of course Lee comes home and finds Indy in his bed. She explains the situation and:

I do this thing for Rosie, you sleep with me.”
I stared at him, open-mouthed and in stunned silence.
I did, of course, understand what he meant but he explained further.
“Not like last night, we’ll both be naked and sexual acts will be performed.”
My expression didn’t change except maybe my mouth opened wider.
“I’ll expect your participation.”
Holly shit.
“Your avid participation.”
Dear Lord in Heaven.
Eventually, I whispered, “You must be joking.”
He shook his head and watched me.”

This is the moment we’ve been waiting for. As it turns out, Lee’s also been having feelings for Indy for a long time, but he wanted to get his head straight, waiting for her not to be under age, waiting for him to be sure he can handle her craziness and once he was done with all this waiting, Indy was avoiding him, since she was tired of waiting for him. So this situation was his big opportunity to finally have Indy. And boy, did he took it.

The situation as I called it translates into: diamonds worth millions missing, Indy being shot at, Indy kidnapped three times, car chases, police involved, mob involved, potheads, crazy people involved and many, many many other crazy things happening. My head was spinning.

Through all this, as I said, you’ll be laughing your ass off. You’ll also fall in love with Lee and you’ll want to be Indy’s best friend and have “Disco Naps” with her (i certainly do), since she’s also amazing, even off the scale crazy.

Maybe we should have this conversation in an alternate universe where Alternate Indy gives a shit what Alternate Lee wants her to wear.”

I don’t need to tell you that in his badassness, Lee is bossy (as much as he can, because Indy’s not the type of girl who will listen to you and say “yes, Sir”).

Lee, you’re gonna have to get over this jealous-possessiveness thing.”
“Indy, you’re gonna have to get used to the fact that I’m the jealous-possessive type.”

You want to marry me?”
“No. I’m gonna marry you.”

Even if it’s not exactly a romance novel as I said, your heart will melt having Indy and Lee together. Some other parts of you will also get this book’s attention once things heat up.

I hoped I did my best explaining that this is a totally awesome book and you’re not allowed to leave it un-read. It’s a MUST. I can’t wait to jump to the next one in the series and see with whom does Hank end up with.

Oh, and I also found a website where you can vote for your favorite books to turn into movies. And since I think this book would be an amazing movie, of course I voted there to support it. Maybe, once you’ll read it you’ll feel the same, so here’s the link:

make Rock Chick a movie

You know I’m not the one to be begging, but this time I’ll do it, down on my knees:
