Vaughn Spencer.
They call him an angry god.
To me, he is nothing but a heartless prince.
His parents rule this town, its police, every citizen and boutique on Main Street.
All I own is a nice, juicy grudge against him for that time he almost killed me.
Between hooking up with a different girl every weekend, breaking hearts, noses and rules, Vaughn also finds the time to bully little ole’ me.
I fight back, tooth and nail, never expecting him to chase me across the ocean after we graduate high school.
But here he is, living with me in a dark, looming castle on the outskirts of London.
A fellow intern. A prodigal sculptor. A bloody genius.
They say this place is haunted, and it is.
Carlisle Castle hides two of our most awful secrets.
Vaughn thinks he can kill the ghosts of his past, but what he doesn’t know? It’s my heart he’s slaying.

As expected ⭐️

Never in my 7 years of loving pink fairytales have I ever witnessed such buzz and talk around an upcoming release! Maybe because I wasn’t active on social media until recently? Either way, I admit I was beyond curious about this Angry God.
To be honest, at some point I couldn’t take it anymore and I got sick and tired watching so many people going crazy about a book we knew nothing about. 🙄

Now, you tell me. Wouldn’t you expect a masterpiece? Wouldn’t you except something truly unique, unseen before, mind blowing? I did. What did I get in return? A typical LJ Shen YA novel, same patterns seen before in Vicious & co.

I enjoyed it, read it as soon as i learned it finally went live, but I can’t say I was impressed. All that buzz managed to create huge expectations, which is a double-edged sword. Angry God has reached #1 on Amazon’s Best Seller List, but then you get people like me, who read it not like a hysterical fan, but as your usual reader and my reaction is basically

Vaughn Spencer is indeed angry, but with solid reasons. A bully, but not as bad as his father was. Lenora is stronger than other heroines before her. I admired her a lot for not being afraid, for not falling that easily, for everything she did.
The plot is well put together, because LJ Shen is that type of author who really knows how to tell a story. I didn’t feel that angst main reviewers talk about, but i couldn’t put it down.

Don’t pick this out of the blue! If you’re late to the party, definitely start with Vicious, who will forever be my #1 asshole hero 🖤💗. If you like that, continue the journey. If you want to try something else and so much better, try In the Unlikely Event.
