The Duet (A Heart Novel) by R.S. Grey

The Duet by R.S. Grey

I find it difficult to express my opinions about this one, but i’ll do my best.

We have Brooklyn Heart and Jason Monroe, both celebrities, both singers, both in their late twenties.
They’re forced by their label to write a duet and sing it together at the Grammy Awards.
Because “Jason doesn’t write in LA. Whenever he’s creating new projects, he goes to his ranch in Montana”, they end up staying there for a couple of weeks.

Now, the thing is that not much happens. He appears to hate her and not think much of her, but she falls in love with him, they don’t appear to write much together, but they end up having sex, of course and he says he’s complicated and doesn’t want a relationship, she says it’s ok, but then she find out he’s married and has a child. And all this takes about 70% of the book, if i recall correctly. So……..

The good part: the book is actually funny. I laughed big a couple of times, especially at Brooklyn and her “internal ramblings”, such as: “Oh good, apparently when you have sex with Brooklyn Heart, you leave with a fruit basket. What a lovely experience. I’ve never had to buy my vibrator a fruit basket.”

The bad part: the plot feels childish her reaction to Jason after finding out about Kim & Lacy and unreal the prom thing, Paulo, LuAnne’s tramp stamp. Not even me and my pink fairytales can buy that. Sorry… 🙁

But this book is easy like a Sunday morning. The kinda book to read in a couple of hours on a beach somewhere, with a cocktail nearby.
